A gift certificate for a ‘glamour’ shot for her and the baby.
It’s important to have a theme.. Find out what her childhood toys were maybe. If you start thinking about it you can make an awesome gift package.
I like to have a tower of gifts in separate boxes tied together with a bow. Presentation is important. You can often buy sets of matching different sized boxes at gift stores or hallmark.
Anne Geddes is pricey but the website often has sales.
I’ve seen diaper cakes alot.
I Block Stupid People Says:
Get her a moby wrap (it’s a sling to carry babies that you can use a lot of different ways) or a “my breast friend” which is a pillow that props the baby up on your lap in the right position for breastfeeding. It’s tempting to get the sentimental stuff (engraved spoons, picture frames, etc.) but new moms are thinking on the practical side.
The moby wraps are great because they come in a lot of really neat colors and patterns, some are nice classy silk if you’re wanting something more “special.”

A friend of mine has a small business that makes homemade sleep sacks. They are super unique, very much needed with kids, etc. http://www.somi.com

Get her a Molly maid cleaning gift certificate for her house. No it’s not for baby but trust me when I say this WILL be her favorite gift by far.

Personalized gifts are always unique. How about a cute, personalized sign for the nursery that accents the décor? They have nice ones here: http://www.mysweetandsour.com/ The artist is a mom.

One of the most unique, yet practical gifts I received was a basket of frequently needed items such as infant tylenol, ibuprophen, teething tablets, gas medicine, thermometer, etc.
Since it’s your best friend you probably want to go with something more sentimental but as a new parent, the goody basket was a lifesaver. It saved us from making many late night trips to the pharmacy.
A special gift that I’ve given several of my close friends is a diaper bag with the baby’s name embroidered on it. You can find really cute bags in every different print, color and size which would be appropriate for either a boy or a girl.

you can make a “diaper cake” you get a square pice of cardboard and wrap it in baby wrapping paper then u buy a pack of diapers, open it, roll each diaper and tape them in a circle, tying a ribbon around the outside, then you repeat the same thing make layers like a wedding cake and stick little rattles, wash clothes, baby tylenol, nail clippers, little hats and booties all around it and wrap itlike a gift basket, its a lot of work but it is super cute and original, my friend made me one and everyone was super impressed!

I think piggy banks are quite unique because your child can learn to be independant, and have money saved up for college/university.

Offering to babysit (like a weekend), to give the parents of their new bundle of joy some rest. And they may very well just rest.
Even a couple of hours at the mall away from junior is a godsend.
I admit, I have not been on this your blog in a long time… though it was another joy to see It is such significant case and ignored by so many, even authority. I thank you to succor making people more aware of possible issues.

How about some personalized baby clothing (if they’ve picked a name)?
